Final gameKliment Taseski

South squandered the chance to press its claim not only for a finals spot but also the double chance with a turgid performance away against Richmond. The home side opened the scoring early through Ross Antoniadis, and despite eventually coming to dominate proceedings in the second half, South failed to trouble Stjepan Gal in the Richmond goal.

Ineligible player fiasco

Following this game, FFV docked three points from South Melbourne for fielding an ineligible player in Kliment Taseski[3]. Taseski's loan from Melbourne Heart had finished on July 4, and apparently informed by FFV on July 5 of this fact, South played him anyway. Later on, the three points docked from South were reinstated after FFV likely acknowledged that South successfully lodged an application to extend Taseski's loan for an extra week.[4]
