The Dockerty Cup trophy

The Dockerty Cup (also occasionally spelled as Docherty Cup[1][2]) is Victoria's main senior men's knockout cup competition. It is named after Harry Dockerty, a former president of the Victorian Soccer Federation.[3] South Melbourne Hellas has won the Dockerty Cup on eight occasions.

First held in 1909, and running every year with the exception of 1916-1918, after 1996 the competition went into recess until 2011 (with the exception of 2004), when it was revived as the Mirabella Cup[4]; it was called the Statewide Knockout Cup in 2012 and 2013 (although the Dockerty Cup trophy was awarded in both seasons), and thereafter once again called the Dockerty Cup.

The competition was usually open to all Victorian clubs from all divisions, with the main exception being the years 1977 to 1984, when Victorian teams participating in the National Soccer League were not allowed to enter. A-League teams have also not participated in the competition.

The competition has been played under a number of formats during its history. The most common practice has been a straight knock-out competition, occasionally with replays for draws. On occasion, a group stage has been part of proceedings. Teams from higher divisions (and later, the NSL) tended to be brought in at later stages of the tournament.

In 2014, the competition also acted as the qualifying route for the FFA Cup; thereafter, the state based FFA Cup qualification path would act as the qualifiers for the Dockerty Cup.
